VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Posted May 20, 2008:
#1 KUED Speaking of Women's Health/Health Matters Event: Saturday June 14 830 - 230 pm (City Library)
KUED contacted me about a community event they are sponsoring on June 14th from 8:30am-2:30pm. They are inviting agencies that provide services to the community to participate. It is at the City Library. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers. They have requested 3 pharmacists to help with "brown bag" medicine reviews. They will schedule individuals every 10-15 minutes. Pharmacy students could do it if there is a registered pharmacist precepting.
#2 Junior League Community Assistance and Resource Event (C.A.R.E.) Fair: Friday and Sat August 1 and 2 - (Horizonte)
As you may know, the USPA has participated in the Junior League of Salt Lake City’s annual Community Assistance and Resource Event (C.A.R.E.) Fair in the past by performing blood pressure checks and offering medication reviews [to our adult participants] in the Vitals Area. Last summer, 788 physical screening examinations were performed in the Medical Area thanks to the preparatory work performed by the USPA members in the Vital’s Area. (This is an all day - both days event - we have done with USN students in the past - which was great)
#3 Salt Lake County Senior Expo: Friday and Saturday October 10 and 11 - South Town Expo Center
We have two events here - flu shots - SLCounty provides everything except the administors of the vaccine - so that is what we do - A great!! Event and lots of good positive patient experiences. In order to volunteer for this one you need to be a certified immunization provider (ie have taken the certification class). We also have the "Ask a Pharmacist" booth - usually a lot of first and second years want to be involved - so preceptors are very very important!
Please contact Karen Gunning at Karen.gunning@hsc.utah.edu or 339-6998 (pager) if you are interested in precepting any of these events.
